K-Park Training Academy
K-Park Training Academy was formally opened on 26th September 2011. The facility has proven to be extremely successful and is now regarded as a vital resource at the heart of the community. It currently hosts a full size 11-a-side 3G pitch and a 7 a-side pitch (which can also be utilised as two 5-a-side pitches or four 4-a-side pitches (known as fun 4’s) for younger children).
The Academy building houses:
- Four “fourteen people” changing rooms (complying with SportScotland regulations)
- Two “twenty two people” changing rooms (complying with SJFA regulations)
- Two sets of Male and Female toilets
- Three disabled toilets (one of which has a shower and doubles up as a refs room for two people)
- 2 referee/lineman rooms with showers
- A fitness & well being suite (to aid in the recovery of injuries)
- A storage facility
- A conference room and
- A food and drink kiosk
The complex also houses a seated covered stand. This together with the all weather surface and floodlights, make this the ideal place for outdoor training and matches throughout the year. Planning permission for a second stand has been granted and we are currently going through the process to enable this to be built. This will they give the Academy a seated capacity of 685.
K-Park Training Academy helps EKCT meet our charity aims of promoting participation in sport, through providing a facility which encourages leading a healthy and active lifestyle. EKCT also provide coaches at the facility to help young players participate in sport and develop life and sporting skills.
We run our own soccer school after school during term time and during the day in school holidays. We also run free fitness sessions for schools which cater for additional support needs for football. The facility is free of charge for school use during the hours of 9 am to 3pm Monday to Friday.
Regular community events are held including workplace tournaments, seven a side tournaments, it’s a knock out, football gala’s and family fun days.
For two years we supported Move The Goal Posts (MTGP) at our facility at K-Park Training Academy by providing them with free access to the 11 a-side pitch for 2 hours every week. This is a fantastic programme and we will look forward to continuing our support in the new stadium.
We currently employ 1 manager, 1 full time and 4 part time members of staff. We have an excellent established group of volunteers who contribute when needed to our facilities as and when required.
At present there are over 40 football teams that train and over 40 play at the facility in Calderglen Country Park each week. The K-Park Training Facility was part one of the initial plans to bring the community together through sporting activities and so far promotes health and fitness to the next generation of young football and rugby players and athletes within East Kilbride. We want to build on this incorporating many more sports.
Strong links have been established with both sports development and active schools within South Lanarkshire Leisure, and in particular with the football and rugby development officers who have a focused approach with respect to the development of sporting pathways. This strategic approach includes participation and player development opportunities, school programmes and links to local clubs / club development. K-Park Training Academy encourages opportunities for a consolidation and expansion of each of these areas as EKCT progresses with their community engagement plans.

At present the land on K-Park is held on a 50 year lease which expires on 26/04/2060.
